Barry is co-founder and Senior Managing Partner of ProHatch, a digital alternative capital and advisory services marketplace for private investment in real estate, operating company and non-profit programs. A senior business leader and entrepreneur, Barry has a rich history of advisory, transaction, operations and management experience, and thorough understanding of the intersection of business strategies, finance and human capital.
He is experienced in multiple industries and geographies, and has an exceptional record of translating thought leadership into actionable strategies that have delivered impressive results in revenue, earnings and value. Barry has earned the distinction as the “go to” advisor to C-level executives across the real estate, sports/entertainment, financial services, healthcare, high-tech, and transportation sectors.
For more than 40 years Barry has brought exceptional judgment and leadership to guide the successful start-up, transformation and growth of global enterprises. He is a notable leader in the real estate industry, serving in the C-suite of public and private companies. As Partner and Global Director of Real Estate Advisory Services with Ernst & Young, he built a world-class advisory, transaction and management services platform that contributed $400m revenue annually and set new performance standards for the burgeoning global real estate industry. Following his tenure with Ernst & Young, he took on the challenge of repositioning Grubb & Ellis, a top global real estate brokerage firm. Selected by the Board of Director, as CEO, Barry led the global restructuring of business services and operational stabilization for 200+ offices worldwide, and restructured the capitalization of the $450M publicly traded company to provide primary investors with strong returns upon exit.
Responding to the global financial crisis in 2008, Barry served as Senior Managing Director and Global Director with FTI Consulting where he developed relationships with high profile companies, investment firms and government agencies. During his 5 year tenure, he facilitated the merger integration of a niche consulting firm, built an integrated services platform, and launched a new practice area specializing in strategic real estate investment and development solutions for US and international clients. Barry established the first real estate advisory office in China, and extended geographic reach to Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East, completing global public –private real estate projects throughout these regions.
Barry has consistently created competitive advantages and increased shareholder value. As a co-founder and senior managing partner at ProHatch, he is expanding this mission with the development of ProHatch’s advisory services and capital formation platform. Working with domestic and international corporations, public and private investors, and US and foreign governments as a business leader and trusted advisor, he has broad insights into the diversification and evolution of customer demographics, competitive platforms, economic factors and other key business drivers. This enables him to delineate innovative solutions and risk-based strategic approaches to investments, mergers & acquisitions, public/private financing, entity and asset restructuring, partnerships/joint ventures and other multi-faceted business/financial transactions.
Barry is on the Board of Directors at RealConneX.com, a private real estate information and connectivity platform company. He is a Board Advisor to XJET, a private aviation company, where he is providing strategic, financial and business development guidance in the formation of a world-class global services platform. He is also an accomplished public speaker, published author and contributor to leading business media, industry organizations and government agencies. He is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council for the College of Business Administration at the University of Rhode Island, his alma mater, where he earned a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and a Master’s in Economic Geography. Barry was awarded the industry designation of Fellow & Eminent Professional (FRICS) with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
